At six months she should be able to watch you do your house work from her play pen or walker. Talk to her but don't pick her up. My son calls it lap-itous. Yes, you will create your own
monster if you continue picking the baby up. Babies like attention but you don't have to hold her. Talk to her as you do your choirs or turn on some music and sing. Let her know that you know she wants to be picked up. But explain your busy right now and yes babies no more than you think.

Another vote for "get a sling" -- I am typing this with a sleeping baby on me in one.
Babyhood is so very, very brief. Hold on to it while it's there.
She does not "need to cry it out" as per some of these BS answers from BS mothers. That is NOT good for a baby.
See http://www.talaris.org/pdf/research/CIOPoster.pdf for a good summary of the research on that. And:

Fortunately my older two never did this BUT my third child wanted to be held all the time. He was formula intolerant so was like this from day one,not exactly like your situation. I knew he was going to be my last and I am a stay at home mom so (to my dismay) he won, I held him all the time!! maybe you can try to keep her in the same room with you, or try a two way baby monitor that you could talk to her while she is playing in a pen/crib etc.Or maybe your family did indeed just spoil her and its up to you to either keep doing it or break it early on! either way GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!

Slings are great, but if you need to get stuff done around the house consider a back carrier.

Give her your attention but don't hold her.. Pull out some toys and play with her for a while and try to get up and stay in her view but do some house work. She needs something to do while your doing your work.. Sometimes you just need to let her cry it out. Try letting her cry for 5 minutes then go back to her and do that over and over again in 5 minutes interments.

Hold her. You might try a sling if you are trying to get things done. Or just let the housework go and be with your baby - she won't be little forever.

well if you don't believe in letting her cry it out, plan on carrying her around for a long time and her being in control from now on, because that is the stage that is being set here.
remember your the mom and its up to you to make the choices that will be best for her and a little crying will not hurt her, all mom's have been though this and you will go though it more than once in your child's life
But if you don't take charge now, you never will , as long as she isn't wet, hungry or hurt it isn't going to hurt her to cry alittle.
