I don't think there is any thing scary about them and I don't believe any one else thought they were either until the movie IT came out. Now half the people I talk to say they are scared of Clowns. But if they would of paid attention more, the move was not about evil clowns.

Hollywood has alot to do with it. Many people don't like them because their faces and real expressions are hidden behind thick makeup or masks. Even serial killers like John Wayne Gacy capitalized the clown persona.
I've always founds clowns creepy, even as a kid, for all of those reasons.

I was given a lifesize knitted toy clown when i was 5, and i had a really scary nightmare of a clown chasing after me in it's little car with a flower that shoots water. and i woke up with it in my face.. i am petrified of clowns now AAAAAgh.

Well, have you ever seen the movie "It"? The clown in that liked to eat kids.
I hear that clowns are trying to take over the world!

Many people develop their fear of clowns as little children...when they are exposed to them at a circus, carnival, etc. I am amazed at how many people never, ever get over this fear.
I know that many little children cry when put on Santa's lap for a photo...but they outgrow that fear. I do know many adults who still fear clowns, though.

their hair, makeup, nose, pointy teeth & big feet . GROWL!! lol i am thinking of the horror clown movie. Not "IT" but the other clown movie where they wrap them up in cotton candy. i think that's why I'm freaked out about clowns.

Quite often the make up - anything that masks a real face is scary, but mostly cos of IT.

Euegh, everything. The fact that they hide behind a happy face, that is creepy in itself. White face, weird eyes..... What's not scary about them!!!?

i dont personally find clowns scary...but i can see how that movie would make people clown-a-phobic.

Not really sure. I never really found them scary myself. I guess horror movies have something to do with it. (Stephen King's It) but I think its also that they have such a fake happy emotion. And you can never see there face.
