Obviously it won't be Conservatives that complain about the use of the word Christmas in schools or advertisements, or anywhere else. I was just curious how many liberals on here were offended by the word Christmas.

Thanks Beardog!! Merry Christmas to you, too.

Bearkat, definitely the best liberal argument, yet. Indeed, corporate America has sold out to mainstream pressure. I wish more big business would stand up in the name of what's right.

It sure seems like they are. They claim it's because there are other holidays around this time, but those holidays might be celebrated by 2% of the population, at most. To find out the true reason why they don't want people to say "Merry Christmas", take off the -mas off of the word Christmas :)
You can't take the truth, can you, liberals?

Heres the thing. Republicans complain about Democrats speaking out against seamingly inane and small things.
But those small things have away of becoming big things. So you get them stopped before they have a chance to grow.
So the Christmas thing has you razzed ya?
The religious right has been trying to get their dogma into PUBLIC schools for some time now. Ten commandments, prayer, all of that. If you allow one they will want more. So now take away any signifier of one religion ie: Christmas and leave the PUBLIC schools a secular haven that is truly a place where those of different religions dont feel imposed on by anothers religion.
Freedom of religion means just that.
How would you like it if PUBLIC schools started celebrating EID ( The Islamic holiday following Rhamadan)
or even Rhamadan for that matter.
Im pretty sure Christian families would have a hard time accepting that. Therefore no religion of any kind in PUBLIC schools.
NONE or ALL

As a liberal & a Christian, no it does not bother me. The thing that is offensive in regards to these establishments is the assumption that all the students/employees/clients,etc. are Christians & therefore they should all celebrate Christmas, which is not the case. This leaves out a lot people, including Jews, Buddhists, Jehovah's Witnesses, Muslim's, Atheists, Agnostics, etc. It's not fair to acknowledge only Christmas & not Chanukah, Kwanza, etc. As a Christian, we are taught to love our neighbors(not just those that are fellow Christians) & to treat them as we would like to be treated. I would not want to be excluded, therefore I don't feel that it is right to exclude those that do not believe the same thing that I do. If these establishments choose to acknowledge a Christian holiday, then they should acknowledge the holidays of all other religions. I do seem to recall that the United States was founded on the right to freedom of religion, or even freedom from religion if that is what someone believes & that there is supposed to be a seperation between church & state AKA the government.

Why do conservatives keep bringing up this issue. It is not true and they know it. But they have to use name calling and personal attacks because discussing real issues scares the heck out of them. Why? Because they will lose big time.

I know many people, both con and lib and not one of them has a problem with someone saying Merry Christmas. In fact on of our vendors is in India and they informed us that they are preparing for Christmas. They sent us a Christmas card too. The secular celebration of those Hindus in India and elsewhere know that Merry Christmas is a happy greeting wishing someone well during the season.

Many who say happy holidays are trying to be inclusive of those who celebrate Hanukkah and Kwanzaa as well. I suppose one could say Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Kwanzaa each time they felt it necessary to be nice but that takes too much time and effort so it is easier to simply say Happy Holidays.

Anyway since it is the season Happy Christmas to all for those who celebrate the religious aspects and those who celebrate the secular aspects of the holiday. And to everyone else Happy whatever Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or Happy Winter Solistice etc.

Nope, but they realize that not everyone is a Christian.

This phrasing of the issue is butt-backwards. The truth is, that liberals DON'T have a problem with "Happy Holidays," which includes Christmas. Why are conservatives so strongly against people of other beliefs or creeds that they feel like they have to shove Christmas down their throats?

It's the Republicans who seem to have a problem with any greeting that acknowledges the existence and humanity of non-Christians.

The conservative's definition of liberal is pretty wide-ranging, so many "liberals" are in fact Christians.

Hey people! Guess what?

The Right is complaining "The Liberals are taking away
Christmas, it's a war on Christmas, etc, etc, etc ad nauseam."

Everyone I always talk to personally always says "Merry
Christmas," even if they aren't known to be Christian.

Guess who is saying Happy Holidays???

BIG BUSINESS!!!!

It's BIG BUSINESS that wants to sell to as wide an
audience as possible.

Conservatives, you want to do something about the "War on Christmas"? Do you want retailers to say "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Holidays"?

Well, then, do your shopping only at Christian retailers that celebrate the holiday the way you believe. You may have to limit yourself in the types of gifts that you give this Christmas season, depending on what these Christian retailers have to offer. But if you are so offended by the "War On Christmas," this is a practical way to take a stand, is it not?

SteelmillCowboy...how does your answer reflect Christ?
The Word of God says...

"speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ."
Eph 4:15

The Word of God also says...
"Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander."
1 Peter 3:15-16

Why do conservatives want to forget this when "defending Christianity"?

"Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. With that, one of Jesus' companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear. 'Put your sword back in its place,' Jesus said to him, 'for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.
Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?'"
Matthew 26:50-53

No not at all, but it does bother me the way people are saying it these days. It's got the same tone of voice as "Go to hell." Merry Christmas should be a wish, not a challenge. I'm afraid that in their zeal to protect the holiday, many people have completely forgotten what it's about. Peace on Earth, Goodwill towards men.

But either way, a very Merry Christmas to you and yours!

they are able to't locate the rest to be annoyed approximately. I very own my very own company and that i positioned Merry Christmas throughout each little thing even my commercials in the magazines. i do no longer care who gets indignant. Being indignant appears like a private situation to me. and that i've got my very own very own stuff to handle than to care if i offend somebody. Any way, MERRY CHRISTMAS to you!!!!!! And real on brother!!!

Quite the contrary, it's apparent many reactionary "traditionalist" conservatives are far more offended by the slogans "Seasons Greetings" and "Happy Holidays." They get a conniption fit over companies and government entities being more inclusive to people of different faiths. I suppose for these conservates, the only greetings that are acceptable are those with an exclusively Christian bent.

"Bah, humbug!"

I agree with Ricky T, it's really the radical left. Every Democrat I know agrees that "Merry Christmas" is a legitimate American greeting and needs to remain a part of our culture second to none respecting all others.

Quit your squawking. This absurd notion of the "War on Christmas" has only served to put money into the pockets of your so called Conservative Christian leaders and to boost ratings at Fox.
