I have gotten so much conflicting advice, I'm not sure what to do. Currently he is eating about 5 or 6, 6 oz. bottles of formula. And has 1-2 Tbsp. of cereal morning and night. We started with rice and now he is trying oatmeal. I guess barley is next. And after that veggies? I guess my real question is, once I start the veggies do I still do cereal? Can anyone give me or direct me to a sample menu for a 6 month old? He is 7 months on the 22nd...and he is kind of a big boy, around 16.5 lbs. I just don't want my baby to be hungry, but I don't want to overfeed him either. Sorry if I sound neurotic, first time mom here :) Thanks in advance everyone!

This is what we are doing. Brayden did cereal etc until he was really good at it. Then we started with veges. Since he needed it for about 4 days to check for allergies I would give 1/2 container of veges and cereal. I did cereal by the scoop in the forumula. Its a great size. He is now up to 2 scoops of cereal and 1/2 container of stage 1 food. After he masters all the stage 1 foods we will have cereal for breakfast. Then add a stage 1 food with it for a while. After that we will have cereal for dinner and after a while have a stage 1 food.

Ideally this is what I am working toward.

Breakfast
2 scoops of cereal
container of fruit

bottle

lunch
1containers of veges
1 fruit
1 scoop of cereal

bottle

dinner
2 contaners of veges (maybe peas and carrots)
1 scoop of cereal

bottle

also when it gets to 2 containers of veges i will make sure he gets the necessary servings of each color.

My son is 6 months old, I'm breast feeding so I don't know how much he gets with that. I give him a fruit mixed with cereal (I like the oatmeal it doesn't constipate him) he gets the same for lunch fruit or veggie and then he gets dinner which is a veggie. Make sure you introduce veggies first one at a time for at least a week. Then after he has excepted eating the veggies you can try fruit. You should talk to your doctor about this.

Ask the pediatrician for the list. They gave me a guide every time I took my daughter with how much she should be eating and what order to introduce foods. You can start fruits and veggies now (introduce them one week at a time). Still do the cereal. He'll let you know if he's hungry. Good luck!

i'm a stay-in nanny for a kin, and all of us started feeding the toddler foodstuff like that at 4 months, and by ability of 6 months, she improve into doing a similar ingredient. as long as she's ingesting her milk, and eating a stable mix of greens, fruit and protein, their isn't a controversy. We had to grant all her toddler foodstuff away at 6 months

I make my son's baby food and this site is helpful. Even if you don't make it yourself, it has a sample menu of how you can feed your son. You will not overfeed your son at this age. My son is about the same size and he stops when he's full...or at least until he start gagging. I only feed him about an ounce of fruits or veggies a day.

Simple answers:
You are feeding him enough if he continues to gain weight.
You can't overfeed him (assuming you are not force feeding him).

At this age, when they are full, they will quit eating. There will be times when he will seem to eat a ton... usually because he's going through a growth spurt... and times when he will not eat as much (sick with ear ache, cold, etc).

The main thing is to make sure he is getting enough fluids. If bowel movements are getting very firm, then he needs more fluids.

i'm a first time mom too, and it's really easy, in a couple months he will not want the cereal, when my son was 6 months, i started him on table foods. As in fresh vegetables, mashed potatoe was his favorite, mashed beans, and i would give him biter biscuits so he can eat for a snack. i really don't like jar baby food, i think it is to give him a variety of foods, so when he gets older he won't be picky.
