let me make the main point of my question clear. i am a believer in god and i see people around me who believe in god but still sin, so it makes me wonder if they just do the daily prayers and try to do some good in the belief that god will not punish them, but they are not sure god is there because of so much talk of science which says there is no god, so they also continue to sin for their selfish ends.

Because the disseminators of the fairy stories are slacking on the job. They are too busy spending the millions the ones already in "their flock" have sent in.

Maybe if no one believed in God, then there would be no sin. Because sin would not exist in our language. We would instead use words like crime.

But I disagree with your claim that "most" people sin "all the time". That is a rather bleak outlook on the world and human nature. It is true that we humans are selfish by nature. But we are also loving by nature. There is an explanation for both. We love and sacrifice because it is good for the community and betters the chance for the overall survival of the society and our offspring. We are selfish because we have only one set of eyes and perceive the world with only our desires. Therein lies the root of greed and sin, our individuality.

But most people understand that to serve one's own interests, it is better to serve society. Only when there is a problem (often due to mental health), does one become anti-social. What we call sin is quite often a result of illness rather than evil.

Yet we do have choices. These choices ultimately determine what is a sin. But because of human nature we are selfish and if God exists, he made us this way. He should understand us. I don't think he hates us and will send us all right to hell because we lost our temper and told that guy at the movie theater that he was a jackass for using a cell phone during the film. We are not perfect.

As for those people who believe, I think it is unfair to say they are all half-hearted. I am sure there are some. But to group them together all is wrong and hints at bigotry. I am not religious. I despise religion, but I do not disparage those who believe. They find comfort in their religion. I respect that.

To finish, I will reiterate that sin is an overused word. What we call sin is quite often something else. If there is a God, he understands the nature of his creations and is forgiving. And most of the people in the world try to do good, not wrong. Maybe we make mistakes, but who is perfect? For those who believe, they may not all be saints, but I think most are sincere. And finally, what you call "sin" most likely comes from those few who are not believers.

Well many Christians think they will go to heaven just if they believe and they think Jesus will save them from their sin. But that is a crock of BS. Many Muslims think they will get buy on their worship and Allah will overlook that. The main reason is they don't actually know the laws of Karma and nature and because they eat animal flesh they are driven by hate and fear. When one eats the flesh of an animal they also eat the fear that runs through the body of the animal There is no such thing as Kosher meat. That is a lie and had been created by sinful men who lust for animal flesh. Because people don't believe in Karma (what goes around comes around (the golden rule) they don't think any one is watching their crime. They become delusioned by desire and hate and the illusory energy of God (Maya) covers their intelligence and they forget they are punishable for their sin. When one becomes overcome by desire and lust they forget all intelligence and even God or think God will forgive them and do the dirty deed anyways. Unless one has the desire to please God more than satisfy their sinful nature they will sucumb to it. Only those who fully take shelter of God will overcome their sinful nature and not act on it. IT is a great science and is written in the Bhagavad Gita as it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada.

It is precisely where there is belief in god that there is most sin.

You mention the judgement, but not the forgiveness of sins, and it is this which gives license to sin. The judgement, too, does not act as a deterrent, either. This is because it is very convenient to believe in the forgiveness of sins; not so with the judgement.

because morality usually applies only to OTHER people. religion is mostly for people to get together at church and make friends sober.

But you should read Deuteronomy 20. it tells you that God wants you to kill anyone who doesn't believe in him. Well, not anyone. just the men and grown women. you "marry" the virgins. And if you don't obey God and wage Holy War, god will do this to YOU.
then there is proverbs that encourage child abuse: "spare the rod and spoil the child" although that doesn't claim to com from God, the bits in Deuteronomy about stoning children to death for drunkennes and disobedience to parents do come from God.

yes, communists were athesists (but communism was a belief systm and NOT a science) and you don't need to be religious to be totally evil, but i agree with Hitchens and i think religion is the biggest cause of sin of them all.

say some distant tribal member has under no circumstances heard of salvation, Jesus, God or the Bible. i assume that's what you're talking approximately. for some reason, it seems such as you assume that God will deliver those human beings to hell. that's no longer only right. first, God is optimal; this suggests He can't be unjust. would not it sound a splash unjust to you to punish somebody for no longer believing in something they have under no circumstances heard of? God is conscious each thing, alongside with our hearts. He is conscious whether the guy in question believed in a author. did that guy or woman worship a 'god' or replaced into that guy or woman so egotistical that they threw out the belief of a god probable present day! God is conscious and judges consequently. the Bible tells us that creation itself is adequate for us to realize that God is, and consequently, there is no excuse for no longer believing. we don't would desire to benefit or study the Bible to have self assurance in a author.

Because God or no God, we're still just regular humans with human nature. And Thomas Hobbes would tell us that's not a pretty thing.

Good and evil are relative terms. What seems evil to you, may see good to someone else and vice versa. Also there is a little matter of free will. God cannot force us to be good, only encourage us to make good choices, just like our parents do/did.

because they think that as long as they show up for Church on Sunday they are forgiven. And most branches of Christianity now teach that regardless of what you do as long as you ask for forgivness before you die your slate is wiped clean, rather than teach the osd Be good and do the right thing because that is what is right.

Because we are all human and not everyone believes in God... and some people that do aren't religious or practice religion.
