It means it is open until the statute of limitation ends if her former boss wants to file charges at a later date.

It's not up to the victim of a crime to decide whether to press charges or not. Once a police report has been filed, it's out of the victims hands. The police pass the report on to the DA, and *he* decides whether or not to press charges.

It seems that the DA decided to go ahead and press charges. After one attempt to get hold of her was unsuccessful, an arrest warrant was issued.

The police make no active attempt to serve 'most' minor warrants - there are just too many of them. The warrant just sits in the computer until you come into contact with the Govt for some reason.

Get stopped for speeding? The police run your license, the warrant pops up, and they tow your car and arrest you.

Finish nursing school and apply for your RN License? The warrant pops up, and your license is denied.

She NEEDS to go and get this taken care of. If it was a petty theft and the employer doesn't want to bother with it, she might be lucky enough to get it dismissed. Leave it to fester, and it will only get worse.

The case file is showing "closed" because there's no action pending on it. Once she surrenders on the warrant, it'll be re-opened, and the new status entered - such as 'trial set' or 'dismissed'.

To the other answerer..... the Statute of Limitations only limits the time the State has to *begin* an action. Once a warrant is issued the defendant is a fugitive, and the SoL stops. This warrant will remain valid until it's cleared.

Sounds like there is an arrest warrant out for her; being afraid won't fix it. Tell her to call the sheriff, or get an atty to do it for her. It won't go away.
