Every response I get is canned, out of a text book or I am given a link. Any originality available?

I could not agree more. There are so many people who "answer" questions by simply supplying a link or two. Referring to a link or a text book is fine for me, but I enjoy reading answers that combine different sources or cite a source and support it or refute it. I am with you, though. Original thought is far better. The answers that I read that show synthesis and originality are more interesting and more compelling. By simply writing: "Check out www. whatever" it demonstrates a lack of knowledge and/or a superficial understanding of what is being asked and what is an appropriate answer. Great comment and real concern for people who like to read and write thoughtful responses.

I always try to do original answers but if people can't be bothered to search the net before they post why should I go to the trouble of originality? It seems to me that a lot of these posts could be answered by searching the net in the first place!

um, i think this is original, my response anyway, but other wise I don't think it's as big a problem as you claim. Besides, if we don't know it, why not get it from a site or "thing" that does? Isn't that the point of Y! answers?
