Does actually showing up at my aunt's for dinner and being in best behavior count?
(I really don't like my aunt or the fact that we have to go to her house for X-mas, which is a 3 hour drive from my home, just because they don't like my parent's dog!)

spectacular christmas candle, rings (the dept save and occasional fee retail shops like marshalls in lots of cases have some spectacular ones that are no longer too costly), christmas mugs, domicile decor or christmas kitchen goodies

NO it's foolish to waste money, even if I'm wealthy. Money is what one survives off of in year 2007.
Those that are rich should donate to a cause and those that are poor should scrimp and save so they will always have food in their mouths and a doctor available when they need one.
