I multiplied the top equation by 3 to get 12x - 15y = 6.
I multiplied the bottom equation by -4 to get -12x - 8y = -52.

Add them together and the x's cancel out; solve for y...y = 2.

Substitute y = 2 to solve for x...x = 3.

Multiply the top one by 2, and the bottom one by 5.

Then add the equations together.

4x - 5y = 2 multiply by 3
12x - 15y = 6

3x +2y = 13 multiply by 4
12x + 8y = 52

Subtract equations
  12x - 15y = 6
-(12x + 8y = 52)
--------------------
-23y = -46
y = 2

4x - 5*2 = 2
4x = 12
x = 3

2y+3x = 13
2y=13-3x
y=6.5-1.5x

4x-5y = 2
4x-5(6.5-1.5x) = 2
4x-32.5+7.5x = 2
11.5x = 34.5
x=3

x = 3

3x + 2y = 13
3(3) +2y = 13
2y = 4
y=2

Check it-
4(3) - 5(2) = 2?
12-10=2
Checked.

If you have a TI83, put it in as a matrix and it will find the x and y values as the answer to the matrices.
