You are not the first to misspell "melancholy."

While it can mean "sad," it can also mean thoughtful.

Here is the complete definition from dictionary.com:

–noun
1.a gloomy state of mind, esp. when habitual or prolonged; depression.
2.sober thoughtfulness; pensiveness.
3.Archaic.
a.the condition of having too much black bile, considered in ancient and medieval medicine to cause gloominess and depression.
b.black bile.
–adjective
4.affected with, characterized by, or showing melancholy; mournful; depressed: a melancholy mood.
5.causing melancholy or sadness; saddening: a melancholy occasion.
6.soberly thoughtful; pensive.

Oh, and to illustrate how thoughtful melancholy can be, here is a link to a lovely photograph of the Melancholy Walk along the River Thames. (FYI: when I went to look it up, I saw that one landscaping plan had misspelled the word and listed it as "Melencony Walk" so you are in good company.)

melancholia

Main Entry: mel·an·cho·lia
Pronunciation: \ˌme-lən-ˈkō-lē-ə\

I did find this referance to the word here:
1319. Oliver S. Fritz (56) (37) was born on 1 May 1843 in Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery Co., PA. He died in May 1923 in Pennsylvania. Caught an article in Reading Eagle, May 1923, Oliver committed suicide by hanging. It was felt he was melencony after a visit to the grave of his beloved wife and daughter.
