totally agree with u, without MJ existing, i probably wouldnt even have tried playing the game of basketball, watching him play made me want to put effort into becoming a good basketball player. watching MJ play made me want to become like him (hey i was a kid at that time) and now im playing div 1 college ball trying to get into the nba, i kinda have to thank jordan for playing, becuase if it werent for him id be a football or hockey player.

MJ is the best

He marketed basketball like Tiger markets golf. There are plenty of people who at least know a little something about golf now because there is an extremely marketable guy in the forefront of the sport. Same for what Michael did. He was extremely marketable and took the sport to another economic level. Is basketball played any differently because of what he did on the court? No. Did the advertising and marketing take the sport to the rest of the world and popularize it to an unbelievable level here in the states? Yes.

There wouldn't be this false since of MJ being the greatest ever in Basketball. The only greatest he was, was the greatest fraud in Basketball. He peaked when the NBA was at an all time low in talent. If Dr J, or Larry Bird would have been playing at the beginning to mid 1990's they would have made MJ seam like nothing.

It definitely wouldn't be the same because Jordan played such a big part in basketball history.

However, basketball would have still survived because someone else would have stepped up and taken over the top spot. Plus, it wasn't like Bird and Magic weren't superstars. They were. Those guys were just as charismatic as Jordan was.

yes. basketball is bigger than any one man, even if that man is michael jordan. and if there never was a michael jordan, someone else would have stepped in to fill the void. nike would still be nike because that time, everyone still believed in truth in advertising and people would still believe that "its all in the shoes".

He's definitely one of the reasons i got so much into basketball. It wouldn't be the same... in many cases the only thing people know about basketball is the name 'michael jordan' :P . You can almost compare him to baseball and mark mcgwire and how he kinda recharged the baseball fans... there had been many great players but he kinda got it goin' again, ya know?

It would be just as good. The game is bigger than any player, and you can't miss something you never had, which would be the case if there was never a Jordan.

yes it would be different, i dont think basketball would be this popular, the game changed to more a more stylish entertaining game. it made way for guys to want to be guards and dominate. i mean he was global star, that had to have changed many peoples way of seeing basketball.
