typically they work with children in diagnosing and treating disorders and delays in an attempt to catch the child up to give them the most normal life they can have.

Testing and, often times what appears to be playing... which is actually different forms of therapy depending on what is needed.

But to answer your question developmental disorders stop the mind or body from learn, growning, etc. Basically if you have a mental developmental disorder for example, you may not be able to learn something such as math as easy as you learn English. Or vice versa. And sometime developmental disorders might stop a certain part of your body from growing.
