What's the best water/xxx mixture to use to keep my Christmas tree fresh for as long as possible?

Is there anything that I should do to the cut of the tree (besides a fresh cut)?

As you have indicated, a fresh cut is vitally important. Maintain the water level above the cut. If the water drops below your cut, resin (sap) can collect at the cut blocking the water flow. This will require you to re-cut he bottom. Studies have shown that plain water works as well as any of the other home remedies that you may hear about. Lets see my parents you to put bleach in water? like you do for cut flowers. to keep cat out we use to put a chile in water? sometimes add a teaspoon of baking soda to keep a good smell to water hope it helps/check water twice a day morning and just before you go to sleep make sure wet so tree doesn't dry out! if the heater is on and blowing directly at tree maybe turn off at night(VENT).

I saw on tv where you are supposed to put 2 aspirin and some 7-up or sprite in the water.

I feel you killed it with chemical substances. Try just water it might get well. If you happen to give up on proper christmas bushes are trying synthetic. I have one and it appears exceptional and lastes for ages.
