I'm with Crashfu....there are so many of these guarantees now that they're pretty much meaningless.

Well, well, well...I guess all you Steelers fans might as well stuff a sock (or whatever else you prefer) in your mouths...the best "D" in the league, huh? We don't need to "talk" about how we'll crush you--we just do it.
So in answer to the question "Why on earth would you guarantee victory if you were a Pittsburg Steeler? "--because you're taking some crazy Anthony Robbins self-help courses and are trying self-actualization/wishful thinking as an alternative to plain old talent and hard work...
Steelers fans will likely come up with some other excuse, as has every other team before them...Smith has already said he's been "misquoted"...convenient, no?

Example of trash talking of the pats, and then the pats beating them:
Marcus Pollard before 2003 AFC championship vs the pats
"If we keep playing like this, they might as well give us the [SB] rings."
Colts lost 24-14 as PM was INT'ed 4x
Vanderjagass before the 2004 AFC divisional playoff vs the pats
"They are ripe for the picking"
Patriots end PM's legendary 49-TD season by holding him to only 3 points in a 20-3 win.
Freddie Mitchell before SB 39
"Rodney, I got something for ya."
Rodney Harrison catches more passes from Donovan McNabb than Mitchell did as the pats win SB 39
The steelers before the week 14 matchup vs. the steelers
"I know we can win."
The steelers are demolished 50-3 because Emperor Belichek HAS NO MERCY

History favors the Steelers? You mean the 5 of the last 6 wins (dating since 1997), including 2 AFC Championships the Patriots won over Pittsburgh? History favors the Steelers? Not an intelligent point...

I also thought that was a little silly. Mainly because the Steelers are one of the better AFC teams but lets be honest they are not that impressive. They have not beat anyone worth bragging about and they lose to teams that they should easily beat. Not to mention, this game is NOT at Heinz field, so they dont have home field advantage. The odds really are in the Pats favor and all things considered the statement was silly but I am cheering for them, which pains me to no end.

I think the rest of the league is to the point where they're so sick of hearing how good the Pats are that they're just reacting to it. The eagles and Ravens Ds were clearly the most focused they've been all year. Andy Reid and now Tomlin both spoke on the subject. Teams at that level go nuts when the media makes them feel like they have to apologize for showing up.

Because of fans like you....I hope Brady gets destroyed by the PIT DEF and he is unable to play the rest of the year! NE is a good team, but fans like you are the reason people want to see them lose.
How long have you been a fan by th way...I noticed you just recently changed your avatar from the Colts to the Pats after the season started. Were you a Colts fan last year...come on be honest!!

It also fuels the Steelers to play well. it wasnt smart to guaruntee this win only because they arent the home team..if they were playing in pittsburgh they would have better chances of pulling it off. Even though Patriots fans sound like crickets compared to others

I'm a Pats fan and I hope he ends up with egg smeared all over his mug. But I respect the move. No guts, no glory. You can't say the Steelers don't have big brass one. That's why Patriots fans are excited for the game. We want to see our team whoop a*s on the big dogs.

What's even more ignorant is that he compared them to Cincy and singled out Moss and Welker. That was definitely a mistake on his part and now they will have no chance of the Pat's taking it easy on them.
I honestly thought this would be a pretty close game but now the Pats have something to prove and we have all seen what happens when the Pats think they have something to prove, ie. the whole "running up the score"

If you don't think that the Pats are a little intimidated by the Steelers than you're crazy. This Patriots team though undefeated is starting to crack under pressure and age which will show Sunday. Have fun watching the game and getting frusterated.
