something tells me most people here are the type of GMs who sign players to mega $$ after a career year

No, he needs to give his agent a bonus. He just got his client $18m a year after a season in which he hit .222/.311/.413! To me, that's pretty much highway robbery.

Remember, Pudge signed a one-year deal a few years ago when people were doubting whether he still had the same abilities. He proved them wrong, and ended with a longer, fatter deal. If Jones can prove that he's better than his 2007 numbers, then he'll be justly rewarded. For now, though, I think he has done amazingly well.

$18 million per year for 2 years is excellent for a good player. Scott Boras (is that Jones' agent?) is as greedy and manipulative as they come. If Boras was not able to land Jones a 6 year deal, I don't think there was one out there.

A player like Torii Hunter was able to get a longer contract because his stats hadn't dropped of the face of the earth in 2007 like Jones' did. The fear that somebody might be washed up usually prevents any long term deals from happening.

No, he should kiss Boras for getting him that much! Dodger stadium is a terrible hitting ballpark, and with his off year last year, they over paid greatly for him. Now if he had signed with a team that has a HR friendly ballpark, 2 years is a bad deal!

And now, the Dodgers have to move Pierre to left, which means one of their up and coming OF's will get less playing time or will be traded. I guess Kemp and Ethier could be traded for a new SP, which the dodgers really need even more than they needed Jones...

Remember it is tough to sign a long-term deal when you are coming off a sub-par year. General Managers are going to wonder if Andruw Jones was having an "off-year" or if his skills are starting to decline. A two-year deal is actually good for Jones. He is still young and if he puts up two back-to-back stellar seasons, he could looking at a $200 million long term contract. His agent actually did OK and its not like Andruw Jones is going to starve at $18 million per season

He hasn't been playing that well in the last 2 years compared to what how he was playing in years prior. I'm a huge Atlanta Braves fan and have watched him for many years here in Atlanta. I'm sorry to see him go, but he hasn't been playing as well the last 2 years (not hitting as many homeruns, batting average isn't as good, but he's still pretty good as a center fielder). I still think he is a great baseball player, but I can understand why the Braves told him this past season that they weren't going to pay him what he wanted to be paid to stay here. I wish him all the best with the Dodgers. Maybe the change in location will help him play better.

He needs to fire his agent, but not because of his contract. Scott Boras has worn out his welcome in MLB. Boras has been proven wrong more and more the last few years and owners are sick of it.

Boras claimed that the Red Sox would see millions and millions of extra revenue dollars with Dice K's signing. They got $100,000 in extra revenue. He blew it with A-Rod and he over-prices his clients' values. Owners are sick of it and they are signing contracts to let him know.

That being said, I think owners are also getting more and more hesitant to sign long contracts because they are hard to trade. I mean Texas had to pay for A-Rod well after he was out of Texas. And Texas had to pay for Soriano after he went to the Nationals. Teams don't want to pay salaries for players they don't have.

Well the market wasn't that good for Andruw Jones and Scott Boras got him the best deal available. If he has a good year he can always renegotiate with them for more years and money as well.

He had an off year last year. If he tears it up for the Dodgers, he will get a longer contract with as much money

He needs to be thankful he got close to that much money after the dreadful year he had. He should put his agent up for agent of the year. The Dodgers just made a big mistake.

He probably won't regret it...he had an off year so he wasn't going to get a huge payday...him and his agent are betting he has two good years which will net him a large and longer contract.
