we started off with basic rules of common decency, and a lot of people fought and died for what we take for granted today, whether that's one person one vote, equal rights for all, all the rules we have now were someones sacrifice at the time, our rights are our code that needs to be challenged in a positive way so we can evolve into something to be proud of.

If youre in the UK, your rights come from all sorts of places. If youre talking about Human Rights, they come from the Human Rights Act 1998, which gives effect to some provisions of the European Convention of Human Rights. But rights can come from any piece of law. A right is simply the inverse of a duty. So if any law conferred upon you a duty, it would really be conferring a right upon somebody else. Eg The Smelly Feet Act 2007 passed yesterday placing on all a duty to keep their feet smelling nice. (thats not a real one by the way! theres no smelly feet act!!) The duty is effectively conferring the right on everybody to not have to smell cheesy feet. But since I think youre talking about Human Rights, I'll leave it at the Human Rights Act 1998, or if youre in the USA the Constitution.
