Name bands whose names just don't reflect in their style of music ...

For example: Eagles of Death (David Grohl's side project - certainly not a death metal band)

Hey - but you answered it :) And you're very right - Death Cab is very ironic

Teddybears

They came out of the Nordic black metal scene. They called themselves Teddybears to be different. Although, their music has changed a bit over the years to include more electronica elements. But the initial use was way different.

How could anyone miss And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of The Dead? You'd think they were a Cannibal Corpse type band, Umm no. Somehow they wound up on CMJ's loud rock chart many years ago, and when I called the record company(I thought the name sounded cool, oh yeah I was a college radio music director at the time) to get a copy, they said it wasn't what I thought. Sure enough they popped up on a video game soundtrack some years later, and they were right.

This is a very hard question, hmmmm.

Every Time I Die - you can only die once unless you're a cat
Machines of Loving Grace - no love in these lyrics!
Death Cab For Cutie - with a name like this, I was expected something a LOT harder.
Olympic Death Squad - sort of like your example, this band was a side project of the band Unrest and is anything but death metal.
Pop Will Eat Itself - there was no way I'd pick them for a techno-industrial band.
My Chemical Romance - super ironic considering none of the members have any known substance abuse issues.

MachPen - It's a notable absence for sure.

I have to agree with Rckts, DCFC does sound like a deathmetal or something band name....
but I think Scary Kids Scaring Kids is an ironic name, because its a line from an 80's movie, so one would think there would be some 80's influence, and the name itself makes one think it would be a little more deathcore soundng

The Cult ~ formally The Southern Death Cult
nothing particularly southern or cultish about them.

Kissy Face Fashion Faux-Pas. They sound like they'd be a dance/pop group, but they are in fact a grindcore band.

The Grateful Dead - For some reason, I always expected them to sound metal until I actually heard them.

Phish - Always expected them to sound phreaky and psychedelic, but actually, I think they sound kind of like The Greatful Dead.

One word: Slaughter.

That's just GOT to be a thrash metal band.... right?
