Can you believe this I have to report to jury duty on Christmas Eve day...8 am what a bummer
I even sent in my card saying I am at home with a child under 12. I am I have a 4 year old..and there is no pre-school duh vacation time...and they denied my request and said to report at 8 am..
So I did what they asked for, why was it denied? Do I need to bring in my son's birth certificate to prove he is in existance?

I live here in California and I have been sent a jury update card and was denied for the following reasons: Incomplete identifying information; proper documentaion not included; or did not qualify under state guidelines. Report to Hall of Justice Room 113 at 8:00 am as scheduled. On 12/24/2007 with a badge # and group #. I did not think they would be open either however it is half a day, I think...but I shall call and see what is going on...thanks to all.

Okay ya all I called the courts and they said YES they are unfortunately open...She did tell me to go ahead and sign the card on the jury update and send it back to them stating I am full time stay at home mother and I am not working...that is something I did not do on the first card...Shoot I did not know that just marked the box saying child is under 12 and I am at home...But she said there was a place to write on the front saying full time mom...and I would be amazed at how many people write full time mom and are working...that is a huge mistake on their part...Oh well, I guess I will not serve this time, we shall see...I will do what she said to do...not only that she can hear my son rambling on as I am talking to her, lol...thanks everyone...sorry to say the courts are open here on Christmas Eve.

I think you should call and talk to a person. When I had to get out of jury duty, they were very understanding when I talked to them on the phone.

A child is not a good reason to skip jury duty only a child who's life depends on you due to an illness. Jury duty won't take that long on the first day. It's been about 30 years sense I had to serve but it wasn't a big deal. Most of the time you just have to call in to see if you are on the list for a certain jury. During the whole time I was on it I served only twice on an actual jury. Others are that lucky and you do get paid for it. It's not much but it is something and if you have to travel several miles like 20 to get to it, they will give you so many cents per mile.

I don't know of a state that has jury duty on that date. Call ... a mistake has been made with the date. Most of the time, they are understanding. And you should not have to prove you have a child.

You can try the birth certificate, but you may still have to show up. I was excused for exactly that reason about 10 years ago.

As it is very unlikely the person that made the decision to deny your request is here on Y!A, you would be better served to call the jury administrator and ask them.

Call the county and confirm it; most courts (at least in almost every state) are closed Christmas Eve and CHristmas Day this year.
