You got married in India & now you want the marriage certificate of this marriage for the purpose of P.R. immigration of either of you. The first issue in such case is the form of marriage you have gone through in India, what I can understand that this was a religious marriage between both of you. Since the religious marriage in India can take place between the parties belonging to same religion only & it has to been seen if you both belonged to same religion according to which you both got married. In case you both were of same religion & got married according to your religious form of marriage, you can get this marriage registered under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 if you both were Hindus (Hindu includes Sikh, Buddhist & Jain) or under the Special Marriage Act, 1954 if you both were Hindus or belonging to any other religion & got married according to that religion. This marriage registration under any of these Acts is done by the Marriage Registrar & a valid marriage certificate is issued that is applicable for all purposes in India & any where in the world. This is the brief information regarding marriage registration & certificate.

IF u got married in india, just go down to the courthouse and get it registered. They should provide u with a marriage license right? Don't u have to register all marriages in the courts anyway? I was born in the US and my hubby was born in india too. We got married there as well. But we went to the court and got the marriage registered. I think the certificate we got is a license.
