I was in a forced alcohol rehab last year during Christmas. I am thankful to really no other person besides my mother for her support.

Other than that, I am thankful for my own self control. It has kept my freedom for the moment.

Merry Christmas

I am thankful that I voluntarily put myself in a psychiatric hospital last year and I finally have a good grip on who I am and what makes me tick.

Unfortunately for me, when my mother found out, she took out a restraining order against me, instead of realizing that I was seeking help for myself and being supportive.

I am also thankful for the ability to chat with people like yourself on Yahoo!Answers.

Merry Christmas to you too.

Health, safety of my family and friends. Also thankful for the new addition to my family this year, my puppy. Like the other person said, thankful to be on the right side of the grass. Have a home and a roof over my head every night, a good husband, good job, and food to eat. Electricity and running water, cable, phones, appliances that work. Great friends to laugh with. Fantastic family to take care of me and to take care of. A car to get to work. Money to put gas in it. Pretty Christmas trees with a few gifts. Sorry, I could go on forever, I am very blessed. Happy for you also, my mom is a recovered alcoholic-keep your life in the right place.

I am thankful my dog is still alive.
I am thankful my car is running.

I am thankful, again against all odds, that we are able to celebrate Hanukkah this year (however meager it may be).

EDIT: I am also thankful for the teachers who have spent time helping with my anorexic daughter. Without them, I don't know what I would have done. (((Mrs. Stop & Mrs. Konyha)))

I am Thankful for my daughters friends who keep an eye on her and encourage her to do the right thing. She has some great friends. (((Megan, A.J., Nate, Julian)))

GREAT QUESTION GHOST!
There are SO many things I'm thankful for: My KIDS, My Family, My Many Friends, and that I have had a steady job for the last 11 years, making me able to make ends meet- barely @ times, but, got to look @ the glass half full. My Kids are healthy- My 25 year old son gained his Electrician's License this year, and is now working on his Master's, making me VERY proud, as he is a year ahead of schedule. I am thankful for his supportive wife, also, of 4 years. I am thankful, despite the fact that my 16 year old rebellious daughter is still close to me, despite the fact that she lives with her Dad and Step-Mother (who, I get along with well). I was once a wild child, and got worse @ one time- the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree- BUT, I take full accountability for the dysfunctions I may have instilled in her. I wasn't there for her for many years, and now I am. I am thankful for my SOBRIETY- and for the "Moms" support group I PLEADED to come to the county I live in, and for the pride of being called Co-Facilitator AND "Mama Bear", as I am very protective of my "girls". I am thankful God gave me the chance to recover from my addiction, yet, knowing this can be taken away @ a weak time. I have had no weak times this year, so I keep on going. I am thankful for the ability to help others help themselves. I am thankful for the warmth when it is cold, and the A/C when it is hot. I am thankful I am able to see the four seasons. I am thankful that despite the fact my Father is very incompacitated, that he is still with us. I am thankful my Mother is so tolerate that she takes good care of him. I am thankful that my Family and Friends, along with my Co-Workers accept the fact I am a recovering addict, and encourage me to help others help themselves. I am thankful I have a large host of Family & Friends that love me unconditionally and without judgement, as I do them. I am thankful for the many Patients and their Families that I have the honor and privelage to tend to. It makes my job very rewarding. I am thankful for meeting new people on the Y/A site, such as you, Ghost. I have many things to be thankful for, and in regards to you, I PRAISE THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE GAINED YOUR OWN SELF CONTROL. It does keep us free, does it not? PS- I've been praying for your Uncle, and hope he is doing better.

Have a MERRY CHRISTMAS, Friend! :-)

Congratulations! Maybe it will help to get a goal or a dream that you can try to reach if it's ever difficult to exert self-control.

I am thankful for my health and family.
