I don't need it for anything fancy, just to type papers, edit photos/videos, watch movies, go online and f around on yahoo answers when I have the pleasure of doing so. I've seen the macs at the store and while the look neato & fun, I don't see what the difference will be If i get one vs. another compaq or dell. Help!

The biggest difference you'll notice will be the long haul. Macs cost more initially but last approximately forever, while cheap PCs are lucky to last 3 years. My parents have had 4 Macs in the last 15 years. Only one of them actually broke, one lived beyond the capacity to upgrade (it was bought in '92), and the other two still work fine. The latest is an iMac, Dad just had to have a new toy :) I've had 3 PCs with 8 different hard drives in the last 10 years, and my current one is dying. After a few years, Windows deteriorates and takes the hard drive with it. As for editing photos and videos, you will be much more pleased with a Mac than any PC on the market. If you look at raw specs, there's not much difference between Macs and PCs other than price; however, Macs use hardware much more efficiently, making them enormously faster and more powerful. Get a Macbook, you won't be disappointed. If you want to edit photos and videos professionally, go for a Macbook Pro if you can afford one.

thinking what you're saying you utilize it for..Mac could be an remarkable selection. this is going to take awhile to get use to however. Macs are greater stable and don't be afflicted by viruses and stuff like favourite laptops do. laptop geeks like favourite laptops because of the fact there is greater application and stuff available yet for what you do...a Mac could be high quality. wish this permits.
