NO, it's not true. Good golly.

You will not be restrained, but your feet will be in stirrups so they can see what they're doing. There is no needle. There is a device called a speculum that spreads everything out (again, so they can see), but it's nothing like getting a shot. While the speculum is in, the doctor will swab your cervix with a q-tip to test for cancer cells.

You gotta wonder why your friend fed you this BS. :D

Of course not!!! Goodness!

You'll lay on a table and your feet will be placed in stirrups to keep your legs up and open, and a device called a speculum will be inserted into your vagina to open it so the doctor can see inside, and a swab (similar to a long Q-tip) will be used to wipe the surface of your cervix (the bottom most part of your uterus). It might be a bit uncomfortable (like a period cramp), but you won't be restrained and NO NEEDLES are involved.

Tell your friend to stop being such a complete dumbass.

You need to find a better friend.

My advice:

- Ask that your mom leave the room. You need to be free to ask the doctor intimate questions.

- Go in with a list of questions and concerns. Your Hymen, tampons, how to prevent yeast infections, birth control, (Yes, ask for some condom samples), ask about shaving down there, etc.

If you don't know the questions to ask, read some of the posting here and ask the doctor the ones that are interesting to you.

Doctors LOVE patients who are alert and ask questions. This will help establish a relationship so you have someone to turn to years from now when you have concerns.

Then - ask the doctor exactly about the exam - what will happen, what she will do, etc.

And your "friend" - when she asks about your visit, let your eyes and lips go soft, give a secret smile and say "it was nothing." and walk away. It will drive her nuts (although she deserves worse).
