What state do you live in? In California, if you been married less than 5 years, you have no kids and no property to split valued at more than $5,000 it's relatively easy. You just pay about $330 and wait 6 months after filing and it's over. It's called Summary Dissolution. Otherwise...get a lawyer.

If there's not a lot of assets to divide, you can do it yourself. Depending on where live, you can download and print the forms from the courthouse's website. Or you can buy them from where legal forms are sold. In my county, the courthouse has times where you can get free legal counsel if you need help filling out the forms. There are different forms for a divorce with and without children.

If it's not amicable and you don't agree on division of assets, then you should get a lawyer.

Depends on a lot of variables. If it's a civil disso, and there is no real estate involved, and no kids, you can just to see a paralegal and they'll help you fill out the forms and walk you through it.

If you have serious $$$ and/or there are kids, you really should find a local attorney.

You could also fill out the forms yourself, if it's an easy and civil disso, but most paralegals don't chage so much so it's not worth the effort.

Good luck.

Even the most simple, straight-forward divorce has legal implications. You need a lawyer.

You can reduce a lot of the costs by doing quite a bit of the work yourself (gathering financial records is the most important part ) but it will still cost you some $$.

I agreed with 2d answer. i think the 1st answer is faulty because of the fact i comprehend a guy that has been divorced two times. He did no longer consider the two divorce and refused to sign the papers the two circumstances. And the two circumstances the divorces have been granted without his signature.
