Conditioning. If you are used to being around otyhers, it will seem unusual being alone. For those who are used to lving alone, it does not feel strange. You become conditioned or accumstomed to certain things over time.

Not everyone feels scared living alone. I live on my own because I want to { this has wrecked a few relationships }. I admit I have been scared a few times by strange noises etc.
but nothing major. Man is a social animal but some of us need more space than others.

I beleive there could be a lot of reasons for that depending on who you are.

If it is your first place on your own you hear a lot of things your not used to and see shadows that your not used to.

If you have any phobias like I do, that can make it difficult as well. I have a phobia of the dark, and of thunder & lightening. I still live at home with my parents but I hate being alone on nights when they go out I have a little trouble being by myself.

Well that is my oppinion! Hope you get many others. If you are living on your own good luck in achieving all of your dreams. If not hang in there it'll happen soon enough.

Because we need a support system and people don't always believe they can handle being on their own. Also, the world is a really scary place, more so than in the past. You have to be careful where you choose to live, especially if you are a woman. For example, you should never live on the first floor of any building because it makes it easier for robbers or rapists to climb in. I've heard that happening too many times.

First of all, I live "by myself", not "alone" and I certainly am not scared.

I enjoy living by myself. I recently had my first roomy in over 30 years and that will be the last time! That one belongs in a psycho ward!

If someone cannot be by themselves, just think how sad that really is; they can't stand their own company or are so needy they have to have people around them all the time.

One of the biggest indicators of maturity and psychological stability is being able to be by yourself for any length of time.

The total freedom that one has when living alone is strange to someone whom might have been living in the company of others for a long time. I have always wished for the chance to get away from my parents and slug it out on my own, but when that time came, I found out just how much I depended on them. The grass is not always greener on the other side you know.

Because there is so much going on in the world today and anything can and will happen so people have the right to be scared about living along.

don't know where you are from but in the congested U.K there are few places where you are ever able to be alone - You are always in sight of other people's (street)lights or (traffic)noise. It is something sort of given that we will be around others.

When I went to China the people there thought that I was ill because i wanted time out alone.

It is a condition of mind. Generally we need some one to listen and some one to talk to but it depends how we have conditioned our mind or more specifically how it is conditioned. If we lived for long time in a group and suddenly we have to live alone, than it is scary and vice verse.
