I'm thinking of making a section on my for humor news, would it be illegal to copy the news from other sites then citing the source of the news at the bottom that links them directly to the website i got the information from?

Yeah - even if you cite the other sources, if you copy articles fully onto your web site, you're still stealing the material.

However, you can provide a paraphrased synopsis of the article, or quotes from the article, on your site with a link to the material you want to spotlight.

For example, you could do something like this:
http://snopes.com/daily/index.asp

It's generally accepted as ethical to quote the work of others as long as the source is properly acknowledged. However, if the site includes a statement, as some do, that its contents may not be reproduced, etc., then you should definitely respect it!
