I love my MacBook Pro its fast, and has more than enough power to get through anything that I can throw at it. It not only runs Mac OS X, it can also run Windows XP or Vista in a dual boot system or at the same time using virtualization software like Parallels Desktop or VMWare Fusion. I got mine with 4GB for RAM and the 1920 X 1200 Resolution 17" Screen for about $3000, I have no idea about satellite internet. I use DSL at home or the Built in Wireless at hotspots.

If an apple laptop is out of the question look for a PC laptop from Alienware, Sony, Toshiba, or Dell and make sure that it has an intel Core 2 Duo processor, a minimum or 2GB or RAM, and ATI or nVidia Graphics with 256MB or More dedicated video RAM, Avoid Gateway, HP, Compaq, or any other brands that you have not heard of before. Expect to pay between $2500 and $4000 for a good desktop replacement Laptop. The higher end laptop you buy now the longer it will be useful to you and since laptops are rarely upgradeable, it will make a big difference over the life of your laptop.

Macbook Pro...pricey!

...or if you prefer Windows, then go for durability and raw power: listen to Consumer Reports and PC Magazine: IBM/Lenovo (and if you want THE top of that line super heavy duty souped up behemoth, go T61)
