Try to feed cereal at night. And give bottle separately. Babies do not sleep through the night as they do get hungry due to their tiny stomach. You are lucky that your baby sleeps through the night. My son does not. He is awake till 4am. You are in such a better condition. My son is 16 months old and gets up after 4 to 5 hours for a feed. And if he wakes up completely then he will not take a bottle. He hates taking a bottle. Imagine my plight. This problem will get solved as he grows up.
Not giving him a bottle is the last thing that I will tell you to do as the baby is hungry and needs to feed. And that is how it is. It is important to feed him at his time of need. Just like we eat when we are hungry. Remember the time when he was born, how many times were you feeding him?
Just keep at it. it will get better. You are doing great. Best of luck.

I got a 6 month old right now that if I'm lucky wakes up twice in the night. He's waking up every 3-5 hours depending on his mood. No 2 babies are alike, so I've learned there is no "trick". The only thing you should try to do, and it takes about a week, is stick to a schedule. Whatever you make it to be. I get home at 6, play with him for an hour, bathe hime, feed him and put him to bed arounf 8:30. He sleeps till midnight. I give him another bottle in his room, with the light off. He drinks that and goes straight to sleep. Again at around 5. He then is fully awake around 8am and eats around 10am.

I have a 7 month that has gotten better about sleeping but still wakes up at about 4 or 5 in the morning, and as far as using cereal in the bottle I asked my daughters doctor and she said as long as you are watching them then it is fine and yes you can feed your baby stage 1 baby food and cereal by age 4 months, as soon as they can sit with support. So I think you are doing a great job, you are doing everything you can so keep it up and soon hopefully he will sleep through the night. Good Luck

My 16 month year old still wakes up once, some nights more. We've tried the 'crying it out' we tried just about everything. We found that giving him a bottle is the only way to make both of us happy. While I'm not suggesting you do this you and your baby will work out together. Good Luck.

Your baby's hungry. It happens. Some of my children didn't sleep through the night until they were over a year old. A 5 month old's belly is TINY. The size of their fist. It can only hold so much food. On top of that, when a baby's sleeping, they're growing. That burns a lot of calories.
Also, unless your baby is being treated by a doctor for reflux, giving a baby cereal in a bottle is a TERRIBLE idea. It can cause choking, aspiration, obesity, and diabetes later in life.

have you tried not giving him a bottle when he wake in the middle of the night?
yes, he may be hungry, but he may also be conditioned to waking up, and or eating then. ( do feed him if he has been asleep for awhile, im saying this if its within a few hours of laying him down)
some babies just will not sleep through the night that young, it cant be expected, just because someone said their's did.
my daughter would wake, and when i laid her back down, and patted her bottom for a bit, soothed her. she would go back to sleep.
even if that does work, dont expect 8 hours of sleep. if you can get 5-6 you are lucky.
continue giving him a bottle a bed time, and no cereal in the bottle will probably not work, and try to feed him an hour prior to the bottle. some thick cereal from a spoon, or one of the "feeder bottles" you can get by sassy. they have thicker nipples, with bigger holes for that purpose.
if your schedule permits, try laying him down later, then 6 hours will seem like more time, rather than starting at 8 for example.
sleep will come, but its not a guarantee, and yes it seems like forever. it has got to be the most challenging thing a new mother has to deal with, assuming you have a healthy child.

my baby started sleeping through the night at 3 months. i didn't give him cereal till he was 5 months but i spoon fed it to him. routine always helps babies set their internal clock. but you have to follow it! sometimes when i stayed out a little later with my baby his schedule was off.
the first thing i would suggest is a routine. if your baby wakes up at night try to soothe him back to sleep for a while 20-30 minutes before you give in to the bottle. do this everytime he wakes up, and try to get him to drink less. eventually he may go to sleep without the bottle and then stop waking up at night.
good luck =)

He is ready to have eat cereal but not through a bottle. Give it to him on a spoon so you can mix it a little thicker (still runny but thicker than it gets in the bottle) Feed him cereal just before bed and let him have the rest of the bottle of formula or breastmilk to wash it down. Give him a relaxing bath and have some winding down time, maybe read a book or sing him a song) Hopefully he can get a good nights sleep on a full belly. My 5 1/2 month old already eats cereal, vegetables, fruits and is just starting meats. Good Luck.

If you want to put your baby to sleep in 20 seconds you must get the "Instant Baby Sleep" MP3 sound track. Here is their official web-site: http://www.instantbabysleep.net
The sound track gently produces energy over the full human hearing spectrum with an embedded pulse that gently eases the brain to the Alpha state well known for drowsiness and sleep induction.

At 5 months, he's not ready to sleep through the night. He's also not ready for cereal or other solids until 6 months (it is a myth that cereal in the bottle will help him sleep).
You need to continue to feed him and soothe him back to sleep when he wakes up. He'll sleep through the night when he is developmentally ready to do so.
