I got back from a 2 week vacation and found the battery on my BMW 325Ci was down due to the radar detector I forgot to unplug before leaving. I tried to jumstart it myself but was unsuccesful. So, I called AAA and had someone come out with the battery pack. The guy attached the battery and asked me to turn the key - all electricals started functioning as normal (previously lights, etc were dim) - but the car still would not start. He then attached another battery (in parallel I believe) but it still would not start - so he gave up and left. 2 hours later, I found the car to be completely dead - no electricals working, no lights on the dashboard when I turn on the ignition, nothing! Did the fuse burn out?

The engine did attempt to start each time. Everything stopped after the guy attempted to use 2 battery packs.

I have a 330i and have had some electrical problems. First check your fuzes! then check your battery. Then check your alternater. You will prob have to take it in to the shop. Bmw's can get complicated!

Buy a new battery. Put it in, connect it up, leave it for 10 minutes. (take the key out). This would charge up the capacitors in the ECU, dash and other systems.

Then start the car.

My personal experience is those portable battery packs that the AAA guys use aren't that strong at all, especially when you try to start a BMW with a really dead battery.

And since your battery is dead, it would not hold charge for the brief moment the AAA guy connected his battery pack.

If you want to see if you battery is still salvageable, bring it for a free test and charge at Autozone. Hope you have a 2nd car to tie you over...

Tip: Don't use your cigarette lighter for your radar detector, use this instead.

It will power off when you leave the car and lock your doors.

After attaching the batteries.

When you say the car would not start, did the engine turn over? (ie attempt to start?)

It just sounds like the battery is completely dead.

Could be that if your vehicle is on a slant that is not detecting the oil and the vehicle will not start(sensor). The battery must hold charge or the vehicle will detect it and not start preventing damage to the alternator(sensor). Could be the anti theft that has to be reset all vehicles equipped need to be, specially after been turned on again after loosing all the power. GOOD LUCK if it doesn't start reach deep in your pockets and be prepared to turn them over for your dealership.
