x = number thought of
2x = number doubled
2x+6 = doubled number + 6
(2x+6)/ 2 = x+3 = result divided by 2
x +3 -x = 3 = result after sbtracting number thought of.

(x * 2 + 6 ) / 2 - x = 2 * x / 2 + 6 / 2 - x = x + 3 - x = 3
