My almost 3 month old had HORRIBLE colic and gas until about 8 weeks, when it started to phase out. She is doing really well w/ just an episode here and there. She is on nutramigen formula, and has been since about week four. Breast feeding was a no-go, then 3 other formulas we tried didn't work, the nutramigen finally did.
Anyway, I am SO SCARED that when we start rice cereal @ 4 months (per her dr. orders she is almost 16 lbs) it will hurt her belly. What were your experiences w/ cereal introduction after gas or colic subsided?

The solids won't cause gas as there isn't much air in them like formula can have with bubbles. Plus they swallow less air when being spoon fed. I started my guy on cereals early too because he is a big boy and very active and needs the extra calories.

Before you introduce solids, make sure to eat in front of your baby so they can see what you are doing. When she starts really being interested in what you are doing then she is ready. Since you are starting so early, stick with stage 1 cereals for the first couple months since they get mixed with formula. This will also allow her to get real good at eating with minimal mess so that when you do move to veggies she actually eats them and doesn't wear them.

My son had colic and did a lot better when we started feeding him rice cereal at 4 months old. He still had gas issues, but I think it had more to do with the formula he was on.

You don't need to start rice cereal at 4 months. And honestly, I wouldn't. Why is her weight an issue? If your daughter is on Nutramigen, she probably has food sensitivities. The longer you wait to start solid food, the less likely those food sensitivities will be an issue.

That's interesting!!! My baby is still only a week old and I'm really lucky in that he hasn't shown any real fussiness or colic yet. I'll try and see if eating a clementine and then nursing him makes him happy. :-D

My cousin was a really colic baby... what my aunt did was only gave her cereal before she went to bed and only mized it with her formula which made the baby sleep at night and also reduced the gases some how, it is strange how things work.. i suppose it depends really on the baby but good luck and dont fret =)

We didn't have any problems as long as we took it slowly and built up the amount we were giving her. Someone suggested that you use Beechnut (?) brand if baby's a little more sensitive, but we had no problem with Gerber.

Best of luck!!

You should really wait on the solids until she is at least 6 months.
