"star" is the meaning of that name. If you goggle the name you can find many sources that can back that up to show the names' meaning. The site can show the popularity of the name and when that name was popular. From what I saw that names popularity went way down in the mid 1930's. Another thing to consider is that your wife may be ALL for the name no matter what information you give her. Some times compromising on the form of that name might help (or making it the middle name). Stella is a far more popular form of that name. The birth certificate can say estella, but maybe you could encourage her how much you dislike the name for what ever reason ( bad past flings ect) and use a nick name stella. Don'r forget how cruel kids are these days and how much worst they will be when she starts school. Can it be morphed into a bad slang or tease? Don't forget to do research on other popular people of today that are already named estell. Are they poplular or infamous?

It's hard to convince a mother to be (and father to be also) to change a name once they get their heart set on one. I had a similar problem......maybe you could use Estelle for a middle name and come up with something more agreeable to you both for a first name that will go beautifully with Estelle.... Good Luck with this one Honey!

Estell or Estella ( another varient) is a very beautiful name meaning star.

BUT, if it helps you should know that Estell has fallen into disuse and noone is longer using the name.. to back this up I will give you to the link to show her as proof, even the chart there show how it slumps on the graph.

Good luck with that. Seriously, if it's not going to be a good deal for her, why would she go for it? Because you'll divorce her if she doesn't? Sounds like that marriage is in Cheyne-Stokes respiration anyway. Of course, you've left out a great deal of detail, so we're going to be hard-pressed to give you a good answer. Look, I understand non-traditional marriages, but what you're suggesting doesn't sound like it's going to fly, even if you can persuade her, unless it's a situation where she is unable/unwilling to meet your reasonable needs. However, counseling would probably be a better answer. And I suspect you're going to have a hard time getting your lawyer to draw up a "side action amendment" to the marriage contract.

Estell for the love of all things holy!!!! Wow, I shouldn't think it would be hard to convince her of that one at all. What's the second choice? Esther??

but the baby will be born with no teeth! lol.

I would show her old "Golden Girls" episodes and ask her if she wants the kid to turn out like that.

Is she set on this because it is a family name tho? If so, suggest that it be the middle name.

Try to convince her to use it as a middle name only. Or as a pet's name. It is a cruel thing to name a tiny baby, though.

tell her that kids are mean and you refuse to put your girl through that. get a list of the most popular names or something. But you dont have to do that, only if you want to. A name does reflect your era though.
