Most of todays games can take advantage of the second core, where most other software still does not. The second core allows the game to run smoother, and faster, because it can process twice the data in the same amount of time.

if you have CPU dual core and the game it not support dual core and play with one core the other core is slepping

dual core (two processors)
in general but asking if
two low end cores are better than high end single core
then no
eg.
2(Dual core)=1Ghz+1Ghz=2Ghz
vs
1 3Ghz(single core)=3Ghz Processor
So in a nutshell you have to do the math.

opt for the dual core always...
the performance is twice better
