I love the Sistherhood of the Travelling Pants Series and the Series of Unfortunate Events. If you like a movie, you could also try to find the original book. Also, ask some friends what thet read or even ask at the library some good books for teens. Another point, would be to read books that have awards or the 'reader's circle' symbol on them. I know my suggestions are all over the place, but maybe one of these will help.
I am currently reading "Both Sides Now" by Ruth Pennebaker. So far it's 4/5.

I know! Im 25 and I feel the same way, I miss Harry so much.
The Hobbit was really good :) Lord of The Rings has to be read.
My other favorites are The Beach and The Tesseract by Alex Garland.
Wicked was a good read. I havent read his others yet though.
The Golden Compass was pretty good, not as good as Harry though, but good in a different way. Just dont become one of his crazy fans. He sort of pulls things from Narnia and Harry and Wicked and Lord of the Rings....Thats how I felt, many times reading it, havent read the second two yet.
I love all Jane Austen books and all Anne Rice books, well her vampire ones and her witch ones.
The Secret Garden and The Little Princess are amazing books.
John Steinbecks are really good as well like East of Eden and Grapes of Wrath. My boyfriend made me read those and I really didnt want to but I loved them.
Barbara Kingsolver is a great author read The Bean Trees and Poisonwood Bible.
The Mists of Avalon is really good, I cant remember the author.
Mary Stewart wrote a trilogy of Merlin that are really really good, I am shocked that they havent adapted these into a movie instead of that king arthur crap but the books are called The Crystal Cave, The Hollow Hills and The Last Enchanment. Very good.
I always enjoy Oprahs Book Club books.
Try those out if you havent already, The Beach and The Secret Garden are my favorites of all time, I have read The Beach over ten times, I love it.

I loved the Harry Potter series. It is difficult for me to choose between HP and Lord of the Rings - both are classics in my book. So, if you haven't yet, I'd suggest reading the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
Another good series of books are "Tales From Earthsea" by Ursula K. LeGuin. These are fantasy based books with wizards and so on, but are a bit 'smarter' than the other two series above. I'd definitely check them out, there are 6 books in all and are a fairly quick read. I may be wrong, but there were times when I was reading "Tales From Earthsea" when I thought I detected places where J.K. Rowling was influenced by LeGuin.
Hope that helps and I hope you read the Earthsea series - I think you'd be happy you picked up those books!

Try the "His Dark Materials" trilogy by Philip Pullman. It's another series of children's books by a British author that are really for adults. You'll be up all night reading. They're absolutely amazing.
They've made the first book (called "The Golden Compass" in the US) into a movie starring to Nicole Kidman. And just ignore any press you hear about it brainwashing people into giving up the idea of God or religion-- it does that just as much as the HP books did, no matter what the author's personal beliefs are!

That happens. Maybe you're choosing bad books. Normally, if a book is good (not great, but good) one finds they can't think of anything else. You've probably chosen the wrong books for you or just bad books. Try looking them up on the Internet before you read them, find out what other people feel about them.

Since I dont know whether you are into Fantasy, Sci-Fi or just suspence, the best thing to do to find books that closely match the Harry Potter series is to enter that into Amazon's search engine and you'll find other books recommended by other readers.

Try reading another genre for a while. I was the same way with the fantasy genre. My comparison is that books are like certain people, you can be around them for a long time and you really get tired of hearing the same thing. Think of a new genre as a new person in your life.

I would switch to an area that is not in the same genre, as I think you are comparing story-lines, and events and find they pale. If you break into new areas, you break out of the funk. And you can still go back and read the books, and I suspect, get mad at how the movies cannot compare to the books.

Well, I'm not the only one after all!!! I was like that for a while, but got over it later. I was kind of obsessed with it, and it was because some things were going on in the family. I'm sure you'll get over it, it's that the books stick with you and you really enjoyed it and admired it. Good luck!
Hope this helps and best of wishes!
