American and Western culture clashing with muslim culture is the primary reason.
A person's culture is a learned behavior but becomes a part of that person's identity. When muslim culture comes into contact with "decadent" western and especially "super decadent" American culture they face an identity crisis. We Americans are everything the muslims say is wrong and we are the ones who are successful. We are the ones who lead
nice lives with some fun, they aren't. We are the culture that is technologically advanced, they aren't.
Terrorism is the only means muslims and many who are weak, have to undermine and defeat a superior force, or in this case, culture. Terrorism has never been a successful tactic.

Radical Islamic teachings that are taught from the time their children are small. They are taught to hate Jews and Christians.
They are also taught that in order to be martyred, they have to kill.
If you are interested in more on this subject, two really good books have been written that I would recommend. You may be able to find them in your public library.
The first one is "Because they Hate", by Brigitte Gabriel. This lady grew up in an Arab culture as a Christian, and is very well versed on the history of Islam and what it's all about.
The second is "Jerusalem Countdown" by Pastor John Hagee, who is a pastor of a large church, (well, 17,000 members is not as large as some churches), in San Antonio Texas. He believes we must respect and help Israel because they are God's Chosen people.
He has interviews with Muslim experts in his book, and they are very interesting interviews.
Remember that knowledge is power. The more informed you are, the better you will be able to understand the difficulties and the politics of the world around you.

Infidels (what they call us) on their sacred land causes people to rebel. If they do not have an organized military and are tribal in nature as they are in that part of the world they resort to the age old practice of terror to try and scare their enemy away and to scare the locals from supporting the enemy. If we were not in the Middle East I doubt there would be much in the way of terrorism there and very little related to them elsewhere.
