Because they will all just lie anyways. No one wants to get on the NRA’s badside, and they are afraid of the liberal press if they say anything bad about gun control.

Because it is mostly a dead issue. Any politician for taking away guns other than the East coast or California would be committing political suicide. And the NRA telling you that all Democrats will take away your guns, so you MUST vote Republican, without taking any other stances or views into consideration is just BS. It is the reason i quit them. I own guns, I am for gun ownership, but it is not the single most important thing in my life. My mother's social security or my guns? No contest.

They are asked. Your watching the wrong debates. The subject comes up all the time when talking of the Republican candidates.

It is not asked of the Democrat candidates because they are trying to be appealing to the south where they like their guns and independents who like their rights.

Well asked or not Ron Paul is definently against gun-control unlike most Republicans and most Democrats. ( I really don't see much of a difference between parties) He was recently endorsed by a popular gun rights activist group in Montana!

It is an extremely polarizing issue, but it doesn't necessarily line up on traditional Republican/Democrat boundaries.

Someone who stands up and says that we have too much gun control loses half the electorate with one sentence. Someone who stands up saying we don't have enough electorate loses the other half.

Its like the abortion issue - only because it doesn't fall nicely along party lines, a candidate risks more by talking about it.

1) It's not asked to the Democrats because they don't want to publicize the fact that most of those candidates want to take away people's guns.

2) It's not asked to the Republicans because they don't want to make Rudy look bad.

Most of the candidates' positions on gun control are well known.

What is gun control? Guns don't kill people! People kill people with whatever they get their hands on. Guns are just very good at killin'! Talk about real issues, like illegal immigration... That's much more dangerous than guns!!

Because it would be political suicide to state anti-gun positions in an interview. Nearly all anti-gun activism and legislation is under-the-table.

The right to bear arms predates the Constitution. Gun owners number in the tens of millions.

They have covered that several times.
Fred Thompson says he's too old and it's been too many years to have a license and go hunting. Go figure that one out. But he says he isn't for gun control.
