This is crazy, or is it?. Jones had a bad year, and he's still only 30, but this is a lot of $$ for the guy. Then again, look at what Torii Hunter got. And maybe this is a Mike Lowell situation, where the guy has one bad year, wears out his welcome and comes back smoking somewhere else. You have to admit that Jones has more potential than Hunter, even if he didn't perform last year.
I think this could be a desperation move by a club who missed out on some other studs, e.g. Cabrera, and feels they need to cash in on somebody. I am sure it was facilitated by Scott Boras, who has some inflated math for owenrs to look at. he actually asked Atlanrta for $20 million to resign Jones. It also could take them out of the running for a guy like Santana, who could have fit in well there.
Bottom line- Boras strikes again!

I agree thats too much money. But I think Andruw will have a solid season & carrer with the Dodgers. Look at his past numbers. Many hitters go through a season where they have struggled.
My prediction on Andruw for 08
.270 Ave. 37 HR 110 RBI
Plus a Gold Glove in the OF.

Andruw Jones have been given 38 over 2 years... They presented Manny 40 5 over 2 years. i've got not been in school for a on an analogous time as, yet i'm fairly particular that's extra. what's incorrect with the dodgers? the place do I initiate?

Well there seem to be more Dodger fans happy about this than unhappy. I don't think he was worth $18.1 mill per year, but then again I have never cared for Jones. Being in a new location, it could arouse his bat a little bit. What I'm more concerned with is his attitude and the possible chemistry imbalance in the Dodger dugout that he could create.

I think it was a good move for the Dodgers. Every player has an off year from time to time. He still put up good power numbers last year. Look at A-Rods low numbers from 06 compared his MVP numbers in 07. He's also a gold glover. I think this deal will make sense after the season starts next year. Who knows, I could be wrong.

Jones is a 10 time gold glove outfielder, who's averaged about 35 HR's a season since 1998. I think you'll find that last year was a bit of a fluke, and if it turns out that it wasn't, that's why the Dodger's didn't give Jones the long-term deal he wanted.

You see many "stars" in all areas of sports have sub-par years later in their careers. I don't think this is because their ability and talent is fading but rather they need some kind of "spark". Andruw has spent season after season in ATL most of them winning ones early in his career. Its almost as if he got bored in ATL later in his career.
By goin to LA it provides him a new opportunity and a team/teammates he isn't all that familiar with. This is the spark he needs and theres no doubt in my mind he will be an All-Star / Gold Glover again in LA.

I don't know but 36 million seems like alot for a guy who hit .220, but he has been good in the past so we can just wait and find out i guess

I think I've stopped questioning any salary at this point. Teams set budgets for themselves, but they can exceed it if they really want a player, so salaries are practically meaningless. $18 million was too much for Torii Hunter too. If you want a free agent, you have to pay out the butt for him.
