It has nothing to do with Oprah, it has to do with a common misunderstandings on the Mormon faith. If you remember your history JFK gave a similar speech over concern of his Catholic faith. People back then where afraid the Pope would have a direct line to the White House.
I have seen several questions on here where people didn't understand that a Mormon is still a Christian, the Mormon faith has been confused several time with the Muslim faith. And I myself don't have a great understanding of the Mormon faith.

For me, what the candidates religion is, is a huge deciding factor for who i vote for. You might say "oh that has nothing to do with how he runs a country" but i think it has everything to do with how he runs a country. Im not saying we need to just choose who is the "most christian" and stick him in office.
We gotta look back at what the country was founded on was christianity. Not trying to give a history lesson here, but before the founders would start a day when writing the constitution and all theyd always start off with prayer, they get to a point where they just couldnt agree on something or just at some kinda stand still, they would take a day off and just pray.
I know i know, this country was also founded because people wanted religious freedom. Honestly i doesnt bother me what or who you believe in, but i dont believe that the leader of our country should be anything but christian. When you start letting people get sworn in on anything but the bible, i think youve gone way to far and thats where we are right now

Well it has nothing to do with multiple wives-Mormons don't practice polygamy. His speech was titled "faith in america." He just clarified that the LDS church leaders wont interfere with his presidency. I thought he did an excellent job.

Yes. Mitt Romney had to defend his Mormon beliefs today because Oprah Winfrey made polygamy sound acceptable. Do you have laughing gas in that scuba tank on your avatar?

No, I wouldn't read into it too far.
It is nothing more than Romney explaining to people who have questions on his religion
JFK did the same thing. Made people more comfortable voting for him.

Because the democrats will use ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING to smear a candidate. They see an open belief in God as a negative thing.
As for the dumb comment that it is driven by evangelicals. That gave me a great laugh for the day. Thank you.

I disagree with you, but I respect your opinion.
People who are voting should be entitled to know this. The reason is say we have a candidate who practices witchcraft or voodoo-well, would you vote for them?
That would tell you a little something about their background and mindset, don't you think?
