Becket annoyed King Henry II who said "Who will rid me of this turbulent priest?", four knights overheard this and thought they could do the king a favour by killing Becket. The four knights did this and the king found out and felt guilt and shame, he then went on a shame walk in white rags and no shoes and te Pope at the time made Becket a saint.
My question is what happened to these four knights after this?

CANTERBURY, December 29th, 1170 AD
We've not ever been told the truth about Becket's murder. One description which I read told of one Knight slicing off the top of Becket's skull with his sword an then poking his brain out with it's point.
I recommend you see a movie called simply "BECKET" starring Richard Burton [Becket] and Peter O'Toole as the King.

For some silly reason during my childhood, people often referred to Becket as Thomas a Becket. Quite simply he was Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury.
Becket's shrine was removed by Oliver Cromwell.
However, a priest prays over a stone set in a side chapel every day at Canterbury Cathedral for the soul of Saint Thomas Becket - Archbishop of Canterbury. This is thought to be the last resting place of Thomas.
THE KNIGHTS who murdered Thomas Becket. Their names are known, but I have not found them yet nor what happened to them. I know that the King had himself flogged by the monks in repentance.

In 1170 four knights, acting on the words of Henry II, "who will rid me of this turbulent priest", murdered the then Archbishop Thomas Becket at the altar because of his adherence to Rome.
There are no records in the historical records about those 4 knights, who were ordered by Henry II. to assassinate him.
Since this was a well prepared coup, everyone who knew about it, may have been sworn to secrecy, those knights in question, may have been offered a large sum of money , or were told to leave the country. Who knows what did happen to them after it.

There was political uproar and King Henry took the knights' lands then sent them to the Pope to ask forgiveness. I think the knights went into hiding after all the palava.

Reginald Fitzurse, Hugh de Moreville, William de Tracy, and Richard le Breton took refuge in Knaresborough Castle afterwards and they were sent to the pope for absolution, as part of a deal that saw their land and property seized by the crown. Lily Langtree, the early 20th century actress, was descended from Richard le Breton.
