you always can during pregnancy, unless your doctor says otherwise. for some women, it becomes very uncomfortable or painful, so it is not recommended for them.

it is however a great way to induce labor.

Sex? Up until labor.

Intercourse? That's a trickier question, but the answer is probably the same. I say "probably" because your doctor who is taking care of you should be informed about what you are doing in case it's medically necessary for him/her to suggest you take a break.

Semen contains a natural chemical that can help your body advance toward having contractions, if you're close enough to your due date. (It's the same thing they give women to induce them.) That's a good thing if you're far enough along, but don't let it worry you about resulting in premature labor- it won't. But, keep it in mind in case you're overdue and out of options!

It may be difficult for you to find a comfortable position, but if your husband is understanding, you'll find what works as you grow bigger. Early on, being face to face will work, but as your belly becomes bigger, it will become more of a challenge. Sitting on the edge of the bed (or kitchen counter, or wherever) will be fine too, also until the belly keeps him from being able to get close enough. Towards the end of your pregnancy, entering from behind ("doggie style") will be one of the best remaining options, if you don't get too tired. Or, if he wants to enjoy your newly enlarged features on your front side -- and many men do -- straddling him will be a way to have intercourse with plenty of room for the belly. In that position, you can have all the fun you want, if your muscles are feeling strong enough to lift you up and down. (He can help.) You won't knock the wind out of him when you bring that belly down on him unless you're having twins! And, if your bathtub is large enough, you'll enjoy being the feeling of being weightless. Otherwise, basically, use plenty of pillows to support the various parts of you that need it, and have fun! Enjoy your new curves and shapes together, and the fact that your size will keep you safe by preventing you from getting too crazy. You'll be fine!

I knew one woman who actually had sex a few hours before her baby was born.

I don't say this is good, or advisable, just that it happened.

Consult your doctor.
