Advances in microprocessors is directly coupled to the ability to shrink the size of the transistors on the chip. The smaller the transistor, the more of them will fit. About every 18 months to 2 years the industry has been able to produce chips with smaller transistors. So far they have been able to shrink transistor size to a point where they can fit 4 complete processor "cores" on one chip. We don't know what the future will bring, but if the computer industry stays it's coarse, we, the consumer, can expect faster and better processors as time goes by.

Transistors have become so much smaller than before and better ways of installing and mapping them making it possible to have of millions in one processor so they made a cpu with 2 and 4 cores
