I think it's a good idea. You can't deny that she once was a huge part of your past, and along with possibly some bad memories, you also had good memories together. Good for you for being so adult about it.

I think it depends on what your intentions are and what her feelings are. If you think it would offend her, no matter how honorable your intentions are, then maybe you shouldn't. If you left on good terms and have a good relationship with her otherwise, then it's probably ok.
