It can take up to 8 weeks after a miscarriage for your your body to completely rid itself of the pregnancy hormone. That is part of the reason most doctors recommend waiting until you have had 2 normal periods before trying again.

You should go to a doctor. They were not good in how they treated you. They should have taken tests and gave you answers. That was wrong of them.
I had a miscarriage and I started to test the next cycle I think it was a week before my period was supposed to come. I got a faint positive. I waited a week and took another one it was a stronger positive than the one before. I went to the doctor and he said that it could still be from the miscarriage and asked me if I wanted him to test anyway. I said yes of course and it turned out I was pregnant again. So I would say that it can take a month to get out of your system or the doctor wouldn't have told me it was probably a false positive.
I had my twins after the miscarriage so a healthy pregnancy right after a miscarriage is totally possible. Funny thing is I met others that had twins right after a miscarriage too. They say you are really fertile right after. The very best of luck to you!

I was recently 12 weeks pregnant but lost the baby on 7/1/14. Doctor says it was from very high blood pressure do to stress. Anyways, I didn't bother with having my HCG level monitored . I started spotting (brown) and cramping on 6/29/14 ,went to the ER but they found everything normal and sent me home. Next day it was heavier and red so went to a different ER and after an ultrasound I found out the baby was not alive and had indeed stopped growing at 6w1d. At that point they called it a "threatened miscarriage" and sent me home. By the next morning I was in full swing miscarriage. I have had 3 before this one but this one scared me. I was passing clots so large they were painful and the longer I waited the bigger they got. I bleed so heavily I was bleeding through everything. I went to the ER once again they did their thing and I was defiantly not passing everything. I was having hot flashes, nauseated and dizzy. They finally got a hold of my OB and had me rushed to his office because the ER in this town doesn't know anything about babies and miscarriages. After an exam I was given the choice of an emergency D&C at the near by hospital and go under or they could remove everything right there. (Stupid moment ) I decided to have it done there rather then go under. OUCH! Is all I can say ! I don't recommend doing that. It was so painful I almost threw up, they even brought the trash can closer . My doctor was great though. He took breaks in between so that I could gather myself and brace for the next round. He did fail to inform me that I didn't need a period after words to ovulate. Now it's exactly 28 days from the day my miscarriage happened and not only have I not had a period I believe I ovulated based on cervical fluid which has always been a trusting indicator for me. So now I have to play the waiting game to see it I eventually start a period or see if I'm pregnant...

I had a miscarriage on February first of this year. I had a scheduled hernia surgery for February 16th. When they did my bloodwork, they came to me and told me I was pregnant. I told them that wasn't possible; I had just had a miscarriage two weeks earlier, and they told me that depending on how far along you were (I was about 12 weeks) the hormones can stay in your body for quite a while. It took until almost the end of the month before my blood tests came back with no traces of hcg. If you were only four weeks, it should probably take no more than a week or two for it to completely leave your body. Just make sure to monitor your health very carefully right now--if you have any signs of fever, or if you get chills or hot flashes, or you feel flu-like symptoms, go to the er right away. Most miscarriages flush themselves out of your body on their own, but sometimes a d&c is required, and you can get deathly ill if it isn't performed. I'm sorry for your loss. Get lots of rest, honey! Good luck...

RE:
How long will a pregnancy test show positive after miscarriage?
I was 4 weeks pregnant when I started bleeding, I went to the ER but after many many "more important emergencies" they told me to just go home and rest and didn't even look at me.
I was curious if anyone knew how long it would take for the test to not show a 'positive'...

that is hard. I've had 2 miscarriages but I never continued to take pregnancy tests once I knew what was going on. I am not sure how long it will show up....your HCG levels will drop daily and that is what causes the results of the pregnancy test =)

Its normal for them to do that at the ER. theres absolutely nothing they can do to prevent or stop an early miscarriage like that. At most they can confirm that you have lost the baby- if you hadnt, you'd be told to go rest. THey should have treated you with more care and explained it better, but the treatment you got is all they can do.
By the time you miscarry the baby you'r body has slowed or stopped its hormone production, generally in a week or two you no longer get a positive result.

If you would like to talk send me and email. Im sooo sorry you had to go thru this.
