He WAS very tall for the era, but more importantly, he dressed like a King and carried himself like one as well.
He was very flamboyant but that only put him out front. He was a passionate Revolutionary and, despite having a lot more than most to lose, was instrumental in the founding of our Nation.
He was, basically, the ONLY choice for our first President.

Daniel Boone was a big man also although he was more out on the frontier. I believe George Rogers Clark, brother of the famous Clark from Lewis and Clark, was a big man also. He fought in the revolution but was also on the frontier. He took several forts along the frontier. Not much is mentioned in most history books about the rev war on the frontier.

not the most physical, but the most flamboyant, he was always dressed very detailed and with complete uniform. His goal was to be an example to the troops, and for being a leader you should have to be dressed always at the best. His cloth was the finest he got it direct from England, like everything else he had from there. Even when the troops had no uniforms to wear.. He also was over 6 feet, so he was standing out.

He was tall and lean, but not the tallest person in America, nor the strongest. I once read of a man in the American army who lifted a cannon that weighed several hundred pounds and carried it. He was a very large man.
