This is an excerpt from peeonastick.com for the rest of the info I would go to their website it has all the information on false positive and evaporation lines (look like faint positives).

"I don't believe in false positives.

Okay, that's not quite true. No test is 100% accurate or foolproof, and false positives are not entirely mythical. But they are very rare and most women will never, ever see one.

I have had, however, many reports of false positives on all brands of pregnancy tests which have the + or - results window (including Clearblue Easy Earliest Result and the new e.p.t.) I have not personally experimented with these tests recently and cannot say whether these are true false positives; however, I have had so many complaints about them I am recommending that women not use them. See The +/- Tests section for a close-up of these tests."

Yes, there are such things as false positives, and it all has to do with hormone levels. Shame on those of you who say there are no such things. Granted, the birth control tests today are pretty accurate, with some exceptions. Read on.

Beta HCG "the pregnancy hormone" is produced by the cells of the implanting egg and can be produced in the absence of an embryo. Beta hCG can be detected in maternal plasma or urine by 8 to 9 days after ovulation. The chart to the right illustrates the normal rise and fall of hCG levels throughout pregnancy. hCG reaches a peak level at about 8 to 10 weeks and then declines for the remainder of the pregnancy

If it's positive even a faint positive you are pregnant. There is no such thing as a false positive when it comes to pregnancy tests.

Sid how long did she let it sit there before it turned positive? All pregnancy tests show positive after sitting for awhile. If she let it sit for longer than is reccommended or looked back at it after throwing it away then of course its going to read positive. Ask your OB/GYN they will tell you no such thing as a false positive.

A false positive is very very unlikely. It you had a positive then you are pregnant. Congrats & make a doctor appointment.

Yeah, my friend took the last one from the box that told e I was going to have my son. I took it about 2 years before that but it didn't expire until Sep. 08 and it came out + but then when she went to planned parenthood they took 2 urine and 1 blood and it was all - ...... but I doubt that was - for you :)

No, not usually. But it wouldn't hurt to get another test and try again. If you don't trust it, see about going to a clinic and have them test it.

yes there is. a girl i knew once, as a joke, tried a pregnancy test, and even though she was a virgin, it came out positive. so the home tests aren't always accurate.
