Please do society a favor and educate yourself about Economics. It has nothing to do with Dems. It is about global supply and demand. Demand is surging forward and supply can not keep up. That alone will raise prices. Add in global instability and you have further price hikes. But there is much you can do to ease high fuel prices on your budget. Let's examine some of them.
1) Trade your car in for a more fuel efficient model.
2) Move closer to your work place
3) Use mass transportation
4) Eliminate needless trips
5) Eliminate luxuries in your budget (cell phones, Internet, etc.) to free up cash
All of these will ease the price of fuel on your budget. All it takes is to do them. Start today!

YES conservation and alternatives would make a difference. Maybe you are too young to remember the oil embargo of the 1970's, but I am not. People implemented conservation, demand dropped, and OPEC nations collectively said, "Ooops. Bad idea," and increased supply.
There was just an item on the news about a new ethanol plant in Yuma County, Colorado, out near the Kansas/Nebraska border. It's a boon for the county, but I believe it is a boondoggle for the nation. The problem with ethanol is that it takes a ton of water and a tanker of oil to produce. It also takes feed corn out of the current supply pipeline, and will have impact on meat prices eventually.
Now, if the ethanol were made from quack grass or something not so energy dependent itself, I might not object nearly as much as corn ethanol.
Brazil uses sugar cane for ethanol production, doesn't it? Sugar cane is far more energy intensive than feed corn.
To the questioner--use less.
Edit to John W. - since you took out your "farmers" comment, I will take out the response to you. I wouldn't mind hearing your explanation, though.

I hope people read Arby's comment and give it some thought. Americans don't seem anxious to do what is needed for a real solution - they need to use less fuel.
We must be the most selfish and short-sighted people on the planet because we won't change the current trend to indulge ourselves at any cost.
There are some advances in technology which will help in the following decade. Many of the technological innovations have existed for decades, but our system is tied to an economy which is based on oil distribution and consumption, and unlimited growth. We probably will not find our government in support of real change until it is absolutely necessary for our survival.
Short term? Gas prices will continue to climb at an alarming rate. It's going to hurt all of us when we go to the grocery store.

Fuel prices won't come down till there aren't people in washington profiting off of the fleecing of America. you can say what you want about supply and demand, but that's a crock of ****.
Ethanol is becoming a big boon...WHY? Because the government is subsidizing it. So the farmers who occupy washington can make millions on corn futures.
Why is it that Brazil can be self sustaining, but we have to import so much. Last time I checked, we are pretty technically advanced as a nation, and I'm sure that if BIG OIL didn't have their hands in washingtons pants as much as they do, you'd see a lot more progress in fuels, both petroleum and alternatives.

They're not going to "do" anything about fuel prices. They, too, believe in the free market. The most socialists can hope for is that the Dems sprinkle some cash on the neediest for fuel oil in the winter so that we don't have to read about old folks freezing to death for lack of heat.

The release all of a sudden, right now, at this particular time, of the intelligence report re: Iran this week is an attempt by the NeoCon Republicans to embarrass Hillary Clinton for her continued support of war policies. It was released before the Iowa primaries to boost Obama's chances of getting the nomination because NeoCon/Repubs believe it will be far far easier to beat Obama in a national election than Clinton.

Even the government replaced, the gas value would be greater because of the fact the value isn't decrease than the government administration. The mastermind in the back of the value are speculators and hedge money that buys the oil futures procuring and merchandising. because of the fact the end result, human beings will react and by ability of then the message would be " eh? there's a shortage of furnish" then the gas value would be up. consequently the value easily pushed up by ability of unreal hypothesis. If we can end those speculators and hedge fund from speculating the value, we would have decrease gas value interior the destiny..

You want lower prices? REDUCE YOUR CONSUMPTION, personally and publicly. Supply and demand works.
Further, you want "action" from politicians. Tell them what you want:
Ask them to use diplomacy instead of big sticks to ease jitters in the futures market.
Support domestic innovation rather than foreign production. Doesn't it strike you as odd that we are financing both sides of the war on terror?
Ask them to implement policies that would decrease use of oil by replacing consumption with renewable energy sources and implementing conservation practices.
Ask them to stop claiming that reserves exist in places that are far more expensive to process when such reserves of far lower quality than currently in use, which would only enrich the oil companies. Rather, have them spend effort to reduce dependence on OIL altogether.
The definition of insanity, I've read, is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. We can not continue to consume the way we are now and expect prices to be what they were in the 60's.

The fuel prices etc, wouldn't be so bad if our wages were going up as well. Unfortunately that is not the case. Every one is falling behind as all prices rise and wages stay stagnant.

Gas is already went down 6 cents where I live and this is since the release of the NIE report. The world is feeling better about Iran. Just imagine how much cheaper it will go when we bring the troops home and get out of the middle-east altogether.
