This one guy at the mall thought I was related to my mother, who's 37.
What I don't understand, is how can you say someone that is almost over the hill has the same physical chararistics as someone who hasn't even celebrated their sweet 16 yet?
Does or did the same thing happen too you?

Sorry, what I meant was siblings like not "related" related. But, as if we were sisters.

Don't call your mother almost over the hill. That is not very nice. She must look young for him to have said that. Now a days people have large age differences between their oldest and their youngest child. It was an honest mistake. You do have the same physical characteristics as your mother if you look like her even if she were 80 years old. You are being petty and mean.

Most 15 and 16 year old girls look more mature than they are (mistaken for being say 20) and if your mom is a young looking 37 year old it is very possible to look close enough in age for her to be mistaken for your older sister (I'm sure it made your mom's day to have that happen). If that is not the case, then someone was just trying to flatter your mom.

You are related to your mother. You share genes.

My mom and I get mistaken for sisters all the time. Just take it as a sign that she has aged well and that, because you share genes, you will age well too. It is more a compliment to your mom then an insult to you.

And some families have large age gaps between their children. There is almost 15 years between me and my youngest sister.

I feel you on this one. My mom is only 34 and Im 17 but she gets called my sister all the time. Everyone but me and a couple other people say I look like her. She is kinda heavy set and I'm not so I guess its cause they think she looks young and they say we look alike. Even though if you look close enough she has gray hair "that I put there." lol

Oh..that guy must've been blind. I think you just look a bit mature, or you mom looks a bit young that's all..Don't worry, when my mom and I rushed to the emergency room for my little brother, this lady sitting beside me in the waiting room thought I was my 6-year-old little brother's mom. Well..put it this way..he's only half of my age, so that is quite impossible. Yup, and my mom got angry, because that same woman said to my mom, "and you're the little cutie's grandmother?"

You're not making a lot of friends here calling someone who is 37 "over the hill." Either your mother looks young or you look old. Really, get over yourself. This was a complement to your mother.

don't be offended, maybe he's known your mother since she was younger and when you know someone, you don't always see the affects of aging.
plus bone structure and facial features are things that last through time.
I wouldn't be upset, it's difficult to determine girls ages especially at like 15-16.
aren't you thrilled that he thought you looked older?
and he could have just been complementing your mother...

The same thing has happened many times to me and my mom. I'm 25 and she's 45, and we have been told more than once "You two look like sisters." It's always driven me crazy, but of course my mom loves it. But our facial features are so similar and my mom looks younger than she is, so I guess it is understandable.

Wow, that's strange...because you're not related to your mother. You're adopted.

yeah thats happened to me before but i think its just cuz my mom had me when she was kinda young so she's somewhat close to me in age and looks like it.
