When a country decides to go to war, it must place the names of every president, politician, senator, representative, (or whatever like title), governor, mayor, in a huge fishbowl. When one of the countries young men or women, (they are the first to go) is killed, National television will show the family of that person drawing a name out of the bowl. That person will then be executed the next day on national news. If the people voting for war and destruction faced the same possibility, it seems that there would be less of it. Such a system would ensure that such a country never went to war, war would come to them.

No one of any qualilty would want to be part of the government, nor would their strategic alliances have any value to other countries.

It wouldn't be long before a neighboring country (that didn't have such a system for going to war) annexed them, and probably with overwhelming support of the population thus annexed.

the problem is if an agressive war is waged against them.

You cut the country's defensive capabilities at the neck.

and the second poster is right, you wouldnt' get ANYONE with any survival sense into those posts, on the off chance that someone attacks the country.

Sounds fair to me, but you would have to get it through Congress, so it is just a neat idea.

Open4one brings up some good points. It would only work if all countries participated. As for people of quality, if they were quality would they have to get employment from the government?
