Yes, history repeats itself. All the time.

The comparisons between the US and Rome are still a little bit of a stretch. Us securing our borders is not the same as the Romans doing it. We don't have to leave our nation or fight wars to do it.

There are some striking similarities between the US and Rome, but not in the areas that most look at when they talk about downfalls.

We have slid morally and in attention the way the Romans did. We are paying less and less attention to things of substance in our nation and more and more on entertainment. The only thing we yet lack in the form of moral decay are the gladiatorial games and their like. We aren't yet watching people kill each other for our amusement (unless you count movies).

We as a society are making some of the same mistakes that the Romans did, which is far more scary to me than the political situations, which are still a long way from Rome.

The statement does not apply to history as such, but to nations that fail to heed the lessons that history can teach us.

All past empires have fallen. The reasons are usually environmental.

The Roman Empire did not last 2,000 years. It was only a few hundred years at best. This is after all only the year 2007.

There is a tendency for history to repeat itself. This, I feel, can be avoided if people are aware of history and what to avoid. If the American senate is aware that their civilization is going the way the Roman empire went then they should b e able to change the destiny.

There's no question that the USA will not ALWAYS be the superpower it is now. The question is how long it will maintain that status.

In Will and Ariel Durant's "Story of Civilization" series, they state that the rise and fall of nations follows a typical pattern.-- something like the typical pattern of human growth and eventual decline.

When civilizations are new and vital, the people believe in their gods, are frankly sexual and are militaristic, bent on conquering their neighbors.

Toward the end of the civilization, people ask if the gods aren't really symbols, and people are more interested in the arts than in conquest. There is an increase in homosexuality.

Eventually, they are conquered by nations who are in the former mode.

Yes, I do believe that. And yes I believe America is bound to fall like so many others before. As far back as you go cilivizations have risen to only to disappear. Even in our own time we can look at what was once the British Empire, or the Soviet Union. Spain was once a force to be reckoned with and had a vast empire...no longer. Looks like a pattern to me.

oh yes,absolutely.......it matters not whether the time is the present or the past....but judging by the current situations and conflicts............well, i must say that there is a large possibility of history repeating itself...........America seems to be falling as time passes by,don't you agree? I leave the rest to you.......

Yes. Ninja history repeats itself all the time. Lots of ninjas kill people the same way. That's repeating history, right?
