Hey, Aimee Mann is a great songwriter, no shame in that at all...I could give you a laundry list of winsome nostalgia, like my old 45s of "Hot Rod Lincoln" or "Rock & Roll, Hoochie Koo", Abba, Badfinger, T Rex, etc. Or the entire Cheap Trick Live at Budokan album, for that matter...But I've been trying to come up with one song that covers all three emotions, and these are as close as I can come, and they happen to be '80s songs as well-
"Swinging Party" by The Replacements (maybe not winsome enough)
"Senses Working Overtime" (verses are dark, but the chorus is awfully cheery)
"The Sweetest Thing" by U2 may just fit the bill...

By the way, it's nice to see that Daleks can get into the spirit of the holidays, between exterminations, of course...
Merry Christmas!

My Immortal -- Evanescence for the somber (reminds me of an old relationship)

Hurt -- Johnny Cash for the winsome (makes me think of all the mistakes I've made)

Anything by Metallica for the nostaligic (reminds me of the good times I had with my best friend before he was killed in a car wreck)

Most any Bob Dylan song. He has a way of bringing true emotion to the forefront. It has a certain honesty about it that makes me remember something...but I can't remember what. Also Horse With No Name by America. I love Mr Bojangles.

So This Is Christmas

So this is Christmas
And what have you done?
Another year over
And a new one just begun

And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young.

A very Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The road is so long

And so Happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight.

A very Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

So this is Christmas
And what have you done?
Another year over
And a new one just begun

And so Happy Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young.

A very Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
