I have always been rather "cautious" of any place that has a lot of people...for the very reason of crowds attracting "crazies that want to harm".
And I've always been pretty "aware" of what's going on when I happen to be in a crowd.
I wouldn't say I am "afraid", but I do attempt to avoid what is considered "peak shopping hours" and try to go when most people are at work, and when kids are still in school. I avoid the lunch hour and after 5 pm when at all possible.
Shopping online helps beat those crowds and the possibilities of being a target for the shooting kind of "crazies". Just have to watch out for the "crazy thieving hackers"! LOL (not!)

I'm afraid to shop in malls because of the prices, the crowds and the general rudeness of people at this time of the year. Anything could happen at anytime and anywhere. I'm not going to live my life in a bubble and shut myself in the house.

No, not afraid, just don't like the crowds.

The thing about the shootings is that they shake up our conviction that we are somehow "safe". I'm sitting on the couch in my den on a beautiful sunny day, and the truth is, I'm not really "safe". A meteor could fall on the house, a gas main could explode, someone could break in, I could have a heart attack, I could get one of those phone calls.....

As my daddy always said, as long as you're alive, you're in danger of dying. We can't go through life thinking about all the things that COULD happen -- enjoy what IS happening!

The world is going to hell in a hand basket, people get shot all the time, stabbed, etc. I live in a small town and there was a shooting in the local bar....I mean a SMALL SMALL SMALL town with hardly any crime. It happens everywhere.

You are more likely to slip on the sidewalk and die than get shot in a mall.

I'm not one to talk though, I haven't rode on an airplane since 9/11

no, however, i am afraid to shop in department stores, which are sometimes located in malls. they are just big and scary, and the sales people are too pushy!

No. You can't live like that...worrying about every place you go. But it's a good idea to be wary of anything that might look suspicious...

I'm afraid to shop anywhere. Reason, i hate to spend money.
I'm a person who is afraid of being broke, due to a traumatic time of being broke with nothing.
A bullet would be a welcome thing for me right about now.
